Project Update

A Joint Inspection Meeting was held on January 24, 2024. The next steps for the project include the development of the plans and the authorization of funding for Right of Way in 2024. Use the following link to view the current plan view of the project last updated on October 10, 2024.

The KYTC Project Team held a Preliminary Line and Grade Meeting on May 26, 2022 and selected the following preferred alternatives for final design:

  • Segment 1 – Hilltop Drive Intersection – Alt 2A
  • Segment 2 – Hilltop Drive to MacLand Drive– Alt 2A
  • Segment 3 – MacLand Drive to East of West of KY-1510 – Alt 2
  • Segment 4 – KY-1510 to KY River Bridge– Alt 2

Palmer Engineering and American Engineers, Inc. received Notice to Proceed on March 1, 2023 and began field activities with surveying and core drilling the following week. The goal of the project is to have right-of-way plans completed by April 15, 2024.

The public meeting was also held on March 3, 2022, for the subject project. A total of 47 individuals attended the meeting. The public meeting was conducted in an open format and included a video summarizing the project for the attendees to view before visiting the exhibits. KYTC received 36 responses to the questionnaire – including eight filled out at the public meeting, six submitted by mail, and 22 online survey responses. The responses were generally favorable of the project improvements, with the public preferring the alternatives listed above.

The following are additional points of clarification for each improvement segment:

Segment 1 – Project Team recommended proceeding with Alternative 2A, with no turn lane improvements west of Hilltop Drive other than minor changes to pavement markings. The final design will also consider adding a third signal phase for protected left turns. Alternative 2A includes raising the grade at the Hilltop Drive intersection to the west to improve stopping sight distance.

Segment 2 – The team recommended Alternative 2A with curb & gutter to Macland Road as the preferred alignment. The District wants to carry curb and gutter on both sides of US 62 to change the feel of the roadway for traffic heading into the more densely populated area of Lawrenceburg, hoping to help reduce their speed. A decision about where to terminate sidewalks will be made during the final design.

Segment 3 – Alternated 2 is the selected preferred alternative in this section. Details for turn lanes and impacts at Lock Rd will be further developed as the project moves into Phase II design.

Segment 4 – Alternate 2 is the preferred alternative selected by the team because of its drastic improvement to the approach to the existing bridge and the no adverse effect to the distillery. The alternative includes left-turn lanes at KY-1510.
